Biohacking is a movement which is focused on modifying mind and body using various techniques and tools, such as diet, training, supplementation or technology. As biohackers, we believe that doing so allows us to improve our health, performance, mood or recovery.
However, some also believe that spirituality may be an equally important area of biohacking. Spirituality may take different forms, such as meditation, prayer, mindfulness, yoga, fasting, expressing yourself creatively, reading revered scripture or attending religious gatherings and some of its goals may be gaining a deeper understanding of ourselves, the world, practicing gratitude or discipline or even learning to endure hardships and challenges of life.
Many claim that spirituality can help with biohacking through gaining a deeper understanding of own goals and motivations, better time and energy management or dealing with stress and emotions. This may improve health, performance and overall mood.
“To know thyself is the beginning of wisdom.”
– Socrates
While there’s absolutely no doubt about the benefits of practices like yoga or meditation, it’s worth keeping in mind that spirituality is a very personal topic and just because something works for one person, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for everyone. This is the reason it’s always worth to search for things that work out for yourself, experiment, be open-minded and treat it as an integral part of your health and wellbeing.
On a side note, another thing to keep in mind is that there may be some risks of implementing biohacking and certain tools, techniques or adjustments may be potentially dangerous for some individuals which is why it’s important to always familiarise yourself with the possible side-effects and if necessary, consult a specialist.
To sum things up, spirituality may be a very important part of biohacking, however it is a very individual matter therefore it’s crucial to follow your own beliefs or find something that works well for you.
“Body awareness not only anchors you in the present moment, it is a doorway out of the prison that is the ego. It also strengthens the immune system and the body’s ability to heal itself.”
– Eckhart Tolle
